SER HOME OWNERSHIP CLASSES

1. OWNER OCCUPIED REHAB — do you need a new roof? Does the wind blow through your windows?
Is your electrical wiring to code? What is OOR and do I qualify? What programs are available?
Is it free? Who do I talk to?

2. CREDIT AND CREDIT REPORTS--This class is based on the information found in the book
“Your Credit Report Reference Guide”. Each participant will receive a free workbook. At the
end of the class you will know how to get a credit report, be able to read your credit report,
and know how to dispute incorrect items on your credit report. You must have this information
if you live in America!

3. TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR FINANCES — Learn 5 Basic Steps to successful money management. We will use
the books “Understanding Money and Credit” and “Knowing and Understanding your Credit”. The workbooks
are included with the class. If you want to own a home and keep it, or even buy a pair of shoes or have
money to go to the movies or out to eat once in a while and not feel guilty about spending money...
this class will show you how to do it.

4. OWNING A HOME OF YOUR OWN — IS THIS A MAJOR PART OF YOUR AMERICAN DREAM? Is renting really a better
option for you? Are you ready to buy a home? We will explore some of the myths and truths of home buying.
“Opening the door to a Home of Your Own” is the booklet we will use in this class. Come prepared to
honestly examine your intentions and desires in owning your own home. Do I have to keep it forever?
When can I sell it? How do I keep it?

6. YES, I DO WANT TO OWN A HOME — HOW DO I PAY FOR IT? There are so many options. We will look at the
BASIC information. What is a mortgage loan? How do I choose the right mortgage? Where can I get a mortgage?
Who do I go to, to make sure I don’t get ripped off? You will receive the booklet “Choosing the Mortgage That’s
Right for You” to use as a guide.

7. OK NOW I CAN PAY FOR IT – HOW DO I FIND MY HOUSE? New houses, used houses, for sale by owner houses,
stick built, modular, trailers--Real Estate agents, points, closing costs, and who pays for what?
We will talk about it all. We will use several books, hand outs and web sites to help you find YOUR House.

8. NOW THAT I HAVE MY HOUSE – HOW DO I KEEP IT? Maintaining your home — Seasonal checklists. You and the
neighbors — what are the city codes and ordinances? Becoming involved with your community. Late payments,
foreclosures, and other emergencies — what do I do now?
